Abranda hypelliptica (A.E. Salisbury, 1934)

Description:   Shape elongate-ovate, umbo behind midline. Posterior end slightly flexed; ridge from umbo to posterior end on right valve present but weak. Exterior with dense but weak commarginal ribs, somewhat irregularly spaced. Interior with muscle scars and pallial line well defined; pallial sinus deep. Hinge with 2 cardinal teeth, 1 bifid, and widely spaced lateral teeth in each valve. Ligament external. Shell colour rose-purple, fading to white with age. Periostracum thin, brown, often only around ventral margin.

Size:                Up to 10 mm in length.

Distribution:  Endemic to Australia: Moreton Bay, Qld[RW1] , southwards to Port Hacking, NSW, including Sydney Harbour.

Habitat:          Restricted to sheltered waters. In Sydney Harbour, known from Quarantine Bay, just inside Sydney Heads upstream as far as Balmain. Beach washup and dredged down to 17 m.
