Salaputium scabriliratum (Hedley, 1902)

Description: Shape elongate, trapezoidal, longer than high, umbo situated at anterior third. Anterior dorsal margin straight or convex, posterior dorsal margin concave; ventral margin squared off posteriorly. Lunule small, escutcheon long and wide. Exterior sculptured with about 10 strong, rounded commarginal ribs, which under high magnification, show dense radial grooves forming rectangular tiles. Interior with muscle scars well defined, pallial line continuous, margin very finely denticulate. Hinge strong, crassatellid in form. Ligament internal, below umbo. Shell colour fawn in old shells, one apparently fresh shell translucent pink.

Size: Up to 9 mm in length.

Distribution: Port Stephens, NSW, southwards to Sydney. The Australian Museum holds only 4 lots.

Habitat: Subtidal, about 80 m depth.

Comparison: This species is much longer than other members of the genus in NSW.
