Pristipagia gemonia Iredale, 1936

Description:   Shape roughly triangular, umbo behind midline; postero-dorsal margin convex, antero-dorsal margin straight. Posterior of ventral margin very weakly flexed; ridge from umbo to posterior margin on both valves. Exterior whole surface with fine but strong commarginal riblets; weak, sparse radial threads on midbody on some specimens. Interior with pallial line, anterior and posterior muscle scars well defined; pallial sinus deep, extending to anterior muscle scar. Hinge with 2 cardinal teeth in each valve, 1 weakly bifid, and 2 widely spaced lateral teeth in each valve. Ligament external. Shell colour white.

Size:                Up to 31 mm in length.

Distribution:  Known from Papua New Guinea, southwards through eastern Qld,  to Sydney, NSW.

Habitat:          Not reported. Uncommon, but probably under-collected due to similarity with M. deltoidalis.

Comparison:  This is similar to Macomona deltoidalis but lacks the strong posterior flexure of that species, having only a very week flexure in the posterior of the ventral margin. It has fine but strong commarginal sculpture over the whole surface, in contrast to the irregular sculpture of M. deltoidalis.
