Naricava vincentiana (Angas, 1880)

Description: Spire moderately elevated, whorls rounded. Protoconch of 1½ whorls, with three strong spiral cords, ending abruptly. Teleoconch with widely spaced axial lamellae on first whorl, becoming either more or less closely spaced on next half-whorl, then fading away to growth lines. Spiral sculpture of threads between axial ribs, variable in strength, fading away with axials. Aperture wide; outer lip semicircular, smooth; inner lip of aperture smooth. Base rounded, umbilicus widely open with strongly plicate rounded entry, axial plicae within. Colour white.

Size: Up to 7 mm high, 9 mm wide.

Distribution: Endemic to Australia; Clarence River, NSW, around southern Australia to south-western WA. Moderately common.

Habitat: Mainly known from beach shells, but a few from intertidal algae washings and dredgings down to 7.5 m.

Comparison: See N. angasi.

Synonymy: Vanikoro denselaminata Verco, 1909 is based on juveniles of this species.
