Zemysia tasmanica (Tenison-Woods, 1877) Description: Shell of average weight, moderately inflated. Shape almost circular, umbo low, anterior to midline; anterior-dorsal margin slightly concave. Lunule absent. Exterior with fine, irregular commarginal ridges. Interior with well-defined muscle scars and continuous pallial line, margin smooth. Hinge strong, with 2 cardinal teeth in each valve, one of which is bifid (Fig. 2); lateral teeth absent. Ligament external. Shell colour white with thin brown periostracum. Size: Up to 34 mm height. Distribution: Endemic to Australia. Port Stephens, NSW, southwards and around southern Australia to southwestern WA, including Tasmania. Habitat: Lives subtidally in sand on exposed and semi-exposed coasts. Comparison: See Toralimysia excentrica for comparisons.
