Propeamussium cf. caducum (E.A.Smith, 1885) Description: Shell lightweight, translucent, left valve much larger than right valve. Shape elongate sub-circular plus auricles, auricles about equal in size. Valves weakly inflated, left valve more convex than right. Byssal notch absent. Exterior of right valve with wide-set commarginal lirae; left valve smooth with commarginal growth lines. Interior of both valves with 7 strong radial ribs. Shell colour white. Size: NSW specimens 9.5 mm high. Distribution: NSW specimens from 549 m off Ulladulla, NSW. P. caducum is known from Indo-West Pacific from East Africa to New Caledonia. Habitat: Subtidal. NSW specimens from 549 m depth. Comparison: NSW shells differ from P. caducum by having only 7 radial ribs internally, rather than 9-11. Fig. 1: Off Ulladulla, NSW, in 549 m (C.165479). |
