Pugillaria emergens Jenkins, 2018 Description: Shell small, moderately tall. Apex coiled, at or near posterior margin, offset 10-15 degrees to left of midline of shell. Surface polished and glossy, with irregular concentric growth ridges. Shell translucent when small becoming opaque with growth. Colour brown and white. Size: Up to 4.5 mm in length. Distribution: Port Stephens, NSW, southwards to Cronulla, Sydney, NSW. Habitat: Known only from empty shells from beach washup and shallow dredgings. Comparison: This species is similar to Pugillaria stowae, differing in having a glossy shell with predominately brown colouration. Fig. 1: 7394-1 Fingal Bay, NSW (C.532860 PARATYPE) |
