All species of Buccinidae known to occur in NSW are treated here. In addition to those figured, the following are recorded from the state.

  • Phos sculptilis Watson, 1886. Indo-West Pacific; in Australia, Houtman Abrolhos, WA, to Tweed Heads, NSW;

  • Cantharus pulcher (Reeve, 1846). Indo-West Pacific, to Bunker Group, Qld. A specimen dredged from Sydney Harbour, probably subfossil, was named Clivipollia imperita Iredale, 1929.

  • Cantharus iostomus (Gray in Griffith & Pidgeon, 1834). Synonym Phos billeheusti Petit, 1853. Indo-West Pacific, to Angourie, NSW. Rare in NSW.

  • Engina armillata (Reeve, 1846). Indo-West Pacific, to Woolgoolga, NSW. Rare in NSW.

  • Engina curtisiana (Smith, 1884). Indo-West Pacific, to Wooli, NSW. Rare in NSW.

  • Engina egregia (Reeve, 1844). Indo-West Pacific, to northern NSW. Rare in NSW.

  • Engina incarnata (Deshayes, 1834). Indo-West Pacific, to Solitary Islands, NSW. Rare in NSW.

  • Engina lineata (Reeve, 1846). Indo-West Pacific, to Woolgoolga, NSW. Rare in NSW.

  • Engina zonalis (Lamarck, 1822). Indo-West Pacific, to Woolgoolga, NSW. Rare in NSW.

  • Fusus bednalli (Brazier, 1875). This species does not appear to occur in NSW, as the Australian Museum holds no specimens from north of Lakes Entrance, Victoria. However, Iredale & McMichael (1962) listed it from NSW as Ratifusus bednalli volaticus (Iredale, 1925), and Wilson (1994, p.95) gives the range as southern Queensland to Cape Leeuwin, WA.

  • Fusus reticulatus (Adams, 1855). Synonym Fusus mestayerae Iredale, 1915. Sydney to southern WA. Also New Zealand. The Australian Museum hold only two specimens from NSW, both collected in the 19th century.

  • Pisania fasciculata (Reeve, 18446). Synonym Pisania delicatula Sowerby, 1901. Indo-West Pacific to southern Queensland, and possibly northern NSW. This common tropical species is listed as occurring in NSW in Iredale & McMichael's 1962 checklist, but is represented in the Australian Museum collection by only two lots from NSW, both collected in the 19th century and of doubtful identity.
